cnn shocker!
missing white woman found!
In a tragedy where most survivors are black, CNN -- which like all cable news outlets is fascinating by missing white women -- chose to feature the story of a Caucasian survivor on its web page. After their extensive Runaway Bride and Aruba "single white female" coverage, we suggested on these pages that "CNN" stands for "Chasing Non-Negroes. " They seem to be sticking with the formula.
Now I'm not saying that this woman's story isn't horrific and compelling, but so is Charmaine Neville's and that of thousands of other black survivors. So why her? Does her story appeal to the CNN demographic because they "identify"? (And they shouldn't have gone with the "nearly naked" line on the lead - tasteless and unnecessary.)
Since we're "fair and balanced" around here, we will commend CNN for taking the government to court over its censorship of journalists covering the recovery of bodies, and will avoid taking the cheap shot of pointing out that there will be a few white ones among them.
