woodward helped promote gop's 'anti-judge' agenda

In an appearance on Larry King Live last night, Bob Woodward helped promote the Conservative agenda of promoting hostility to the judicial branch.  He participated in a panel discussion where the first topic was Harriet Miers.   Woodward took the opportunity to defend Bush's selection of a non-judge for the Court, and to smear all those who serve in the judiciary.

We know how conservatives hate judges, but what does Ace Reporter Bob think?  First, echoing Trent Lott's comment that "in a month nobody will remember the name Harriet Miers," Woodward said that “if they come up with a good nomination (Miers) will be forgotten.”  Then:

Bush was onto something by trying to select someone who was not a professional judge.  We've got all of these people on the Supreme Court who sit around ... on the federal appeals court what you do all day is look at legal paper and talk to lawyers and there is nothing more divorced from the real world than legal papers and lawyers ... Bush was trying to get somebody from the outer world here .... that instinct of putting somebody with different human eperience is exactly the right one.

Which means, of course, that being a corporate lawyer and writing gushing notes to W. is living in “the real world.”  Judges wrestled with detailed human problems everyday, while Harriet Miers' law firm bilked clients.  But if you call judges “divorced from the real world,” then it doesn't sound so outrageous when Republicans threaten them from the floor of the Senate over the Schiavo case, does it?  Fellow panelist Lindsay Graham was nearly tumescent with excitement at Woodward's comments, eagerly underscoring the wisdom of selecting a nominee from outside “the judge monastery.”

Suprised?  Wait until you hear what he said about the Fitzgerald investigation.  And why would he parrot the party line so faithfully?  The answer's right in the Larry King transcript:  "I'm trying to do a book on the Bush second term.  "

I agree with you 100% about Woodward. This is the E-mail that I sent him.

"Who needs Karen Hughes when the Bush has you doing the spinning for him. The fact is that the leaking of a CIA agent was malicious. Karl Rove is not a nice man. Your former colleague Haynes Johnson says that Rove is a latter day Mccarthy.

And according to those in contact with the CIA they say the leaking of Plame`s name has damaged the agency.

It is obvious that you get your talking from Bush and you are making a fool out of yourself by defending that corrupt administration."
