I just got a fundraising letter from James Carville on behalf of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. James, you have to stop writing me like this.
Carville is emblematic of everything that's wrong with Democratic insider politics today, especially within the Clinton campaign. Carville's smug ad a year ago on behalf of Hillary telegraphed everything that was later to prove so wrong about her campaign and the in-group behind it.
I wrote about it then, but to briefly recap - the ad boasted about Hillary's unwillingness to apologize for her Iraq vote, despite the resulting tragic and needless loss of life. It attempted to make virtues of both a tragic error in judgement (or cynical and self-serving political calculation) and the subsequent refusal to acknowledge a mistake. "Hillary won't back down," Carville cheered, "and we've got her back."
It was as if the nation's fate - and the war itself - was about Hillary and her pals, not those who are losing their lives every day.
Carville continues to represent the Cosa Nostra-like psychology of the Clinton insider, as evidenced by his willingness to call Bill Richardson a "Judas." Why? Because he failed to bend the knee to the capo - or the capo's wife - and he owed the capo for appointing him to those jobs.
Richardson's response was right on the money. He said he was grateful to Bill Clinton, but that his highest loyalty was to the nation. All that "loyalty" the Clintons are demanding was paid from American tax dollars, not their personal stash.
The James Carvilles of this world will never understand that. To them, elections are about amplifying the power of a cynical group of Democratic party insiders - insiders who don't hesitate to profit from their political careers with the Colombian government, Blackwater, or anybody else who will pay their fees.
Now Carville's asking me to pony up to the DSCC. But the Clinton crowd can't avoid dividing the party to increase their own power, even in a fundraising letter. Not only does Carville ask for money for the DSCC, he wants to make sure you don't give any to the Democratic group they don't influence - the Democratic National Committee. Writes Carville:
"... that's why I'm asking you to join me and get behind the only arm of the Democratic Party focused solely on kicking Republicans out of the Senate -- and it's NOT the DNC."
Lots of people give to both the DSCC and the DNC. Carville and Co. want that to stop. They want to consolidate money and power where they can help control it.
Can't these people do anything without damaging their party? And did you know when you last contributed to the DSCC that your dollars would be used to trash another Democratic organization and try to cut off its cash flow?
James Carville and his wife are two persons who does not need make up to pose in a Halloween Party.

I also got the request for a contribution to DSCC from Carville. I quickly returned it, indicating there would be $0.00 contribution to any organization that was even remotely connected to James Carville. What a sad reminder he is of what we must change even in our own party.
