There needs to be law reform across all states regarding domestic violence against women and that the abusers are severely punished. What judge in his or her right mind would grant total custody to a father who batters his domestic partner on a daily basis? You would think that a man who beats his wife to a pulp is not exactly a good role model for his children and may possibly even start beating the children next. I thought that the laws were supposed to protect children against brutality and danger. The real problem is that the court systems are so inundated, judges don’t want to take the time to examine the facts about the abusive parent and who would be the best caretaker. This just proves that women must take a stand and start protecting themselves and their children against violent acts from anyone who threatens their safety and well-being. Battered women are not getting any help from the legal system, from legislation and from their community. There still is an underlying archaic white male mindset in the United States that place women as second hand citizens with little concern for their health and safety. So what if her husband uses her as a punching bag? She probably was nagging him and deserved it. This statement may be shocking to some, but I still hear similar ignorant remarks coming from both men and even women. No matter what the circumstances are, it is a crime to administer any type of assault on a woman even if she nags her husband to fix the leaky sink. The bottom line is women in an abusive relationship must have an “attack survival pack” on her at all times – a fully charged cell phone to call 911, a kubaton to attack pressure points of the abuser such as the temple, nose, head and eyes , and a pepper spray or taser to temporarily paralyze the creep and bide time to get out of there with the children to safety. Most importantly, women must draw from their inner spirit and attack back hard. Every day 4 women in the U.S. die from domestic violence. It’s time for women to take back their lives and fight back!
