Lou Dobbs sorta-kinda apologized to The Huffington Post for calling Howard Dean a "bloodsucking leftist" who can only be stopped with "a stake through the heart" - that is, if you call this an apology:
"I'm sorry if a Bram Stoker allusion is too literary for some ..."
Get it? It was a literary allusion, you unlettered swine. So step off!
Because, of course, Lou Dobbs has never seen any pop culture references to vampires - or the gruesome way they must be killed. Blood and gore is strictly Lit 101 where Lou's concerned. He may not even be aware that these mythical creatures have been the subject of several ... what do you call them? ... moving picture shows. They've even made some "talkies" about them, I understand.
Funny. I had Lou pegged as a Hammer Films kind of guy. Something about his secret life as an Anglophile, perhaps ... but apparently not. That means Dobbs has probably never seen the Mexican film entitled Echenme Al Vampiro, or "Bring Me a Vampire." But then again, I guess he wouldn't have.
What's the real lesson here? I think it's that it's OK to say that health reform means that the Democrats will start slaughtering old ladies. Because if you get offended, well, I'm sorry if a Dostoesvsky allusion is too literary for you.
