Hello Richard, welcome to the IEET with this great post.

I believe even the most exotic transhumanist ideas like radical life extension or uploading brains into computers, if and when they are actually achieved, will be seen as basically equivalent to Allan Young becoming a human/machine hybrid when he picked up a radio microphone, and a continuation of the same process which has been going on for ages.

I am for egalitarian access to technology, but I also think insisting on egalitarian access to much and too soon can only kill in the cradle technology which could later become accessible to all (your cell phone example).
